I won't have a religion column in my local newspaper this week. I spent a good chunk of my free time this week wrestling with a new installation of Windows 8 and its second incarnation after the first one committed suicide. I also squandered time on writing a psychology essay on introversion and extroversion, and other such ab-nerd-ities. My apologies. Next week I hope to get back on track. I am grateful for the blessing of the mid-week Mass for the solemn holy day of All Saints Day. God is good, even when I'm less than such. May God bless you all.

What happened with Windows 8? I was going to be installing it soon. It would be nice to know. Will you post your essay on your site?

When I installed Windows Media Center, it required me to reboot. After I did that, Windows went into self-diagnosis mode, couldn't figure out whatever was wrong, and required me to "refresh" the installation. Doing so is somewhat like re-installing all over again, and I had to reinstall all of my software again. Then I could find no tile, icon or link to Windows Media Center and it wouldn't let me try to install it again. A few days later an impulsive search revealed the setup program for the media center was there.
